World Record Speed of China’s High Speed Railway
Yesterday, the new generation China Railway High-Speed train runs up to 416.6 kilometers per hour. It breaks the highest world record of experimental railway speed.
The newly finished high speed railway is between Shanghai and Hangzhou. It launched on Feb. 26, 2009, and completed on Aug. 6 this year. The whole railway is 202 km long and it takes 38 minutes from Shanghai to Hangzhou with the so high speed, which is 40 minutes shorter than the current highest CRH trains.
Piracy and IP Protection in China
Piracy is still rampant in China, although the Government has put much effort into protecting intellectual property. The official report says that China has 45% software pirating rate in year 2009.
The high rate of piracy of intellectual property brings a very negative impression to China. Microsoft and other companies have filed many lawsuits to indict those companies which use pirated software.
The Train Tickets Are Hot
Even though the railway system has been upgraded quickly in the recent years, it is still difficult to buy a train ticket during long holidays, like the coming National Day. The train tickets are still in huge demand currently.
Yesterday, I went to the train ticket agency and wanted to buy two tickets. There was an about 200 meters long queue in the front of the agency. I gave up and had to delay my travel. A news reports that a woman surnamed Chen waited 9 hours in order to buy a ticket from Shanghai to Guizhou.
Jiangxi Self-Immolation Incident
On Sept. 18, eight local officials of Yihuang county have been reported to be investigation by Fuzhou Municipal Party Committee of Jiangxi Province. A severe demolition self-immolation tragedy took place in Yihuang during last ten days.
More than 100 people that’s from Public Security Bureau, Construction Bureau, department of housing management and other about 10 departments went to Zhong’s family on Sept. 10. They wanted to control the family to demolish the house. The family protested against the demolition and three members of Zhong’s family went up to the roof, dump oil and burn themselves.
Motivation of Job Hopping
Comparing to US and European, employees in China change their jobs much more frequent. I see several employees have been working in our company for about 20 years, almost since the company founded. Of course, these people work in US. In our Shanghai site, people that have served for 5 years are with a small ratio. Why employees in China hop jobs so frequently? What’s the motivation?
The starting salary for new graduate is small and the salary increases slowly. Many graduates get 3,000 to 5,000 RMB monthly wage and it is relatively lucky to have an increase of 10% year to year. The increase percentage is very big in US, but it is small in China because the product price increases sharply and the starting salary is much lower.
