About the event
About the Workshop
Two hours with raw clay and a potter who works it for a living. Mukesh Kumhar, a terracotta artist based in Delhi, takes you through the technique stage by stage as you shape your own Ganesha idol.
Terracotta is among the oldest working materials on the subcontinent. Fired clay figurines and objects survive from Indus Valley sites, and the craft has carried on in potters' workshops across the country ever since. It has stayed in use because it is cheap, forgiving and available, which is why it turns up in both household objects and festival images.
You will learn how the clay is prepared, how form is built up, and how surface detail is worked in, with the artist guiding each stage.
A note before you book
Terracotta is slow, detailed work and most participants will not finish the idol within two hours. Mukesh will show you…
