Today, Hauz Khas is known for cocktails and conversations. But just beyond the wall that separates the village from its ruins, history quietly endures.

In the early 14th century, Alauddin Khilji constructed a vast reservoir — the Hauz-i-Alai — as part of his capital city Siri. It was built to harvest rainwater and sustain the growing urban population. For decades, this reservoir served as a lifeline to the Sultanate's newest power centre.
